Mary O’Connor presents her role as a Special Advisor for National Grid VIP

Being the LI Rep on the Stakeholder Advisory Group for National Grid’s Visual Impact Provision project I have been the LI’s Rep on this SAG since 2014 and, as I hand over to Sue Sljivic, this event is an opportunity to share some of the interesting and exciting activities of this role:
  • learning about how a regulator (Ofgem) works
  • working with other reps from national park and AONB associations, the statutory bodies for landscape and heritage, interest groups such as Ramblers, CPRE and CPRW, etc, and chaired by Chris Baines
  • contributing to the process to identify projects for investment of the £0.5bn “provision” to ameliorate the effects of overhead powerline infrastructure on landscape and visual amenity.

I will give a flavour of how we got to the four major engineering schemes that are the focus of first phase investment, and what they comprise, and the other landscape projects that spun-off from it.
