Mary Jackson, Learning through Landscapes

Mary Jackson is a teacher and chartered landscape architect who has been involved in school grounds for over 25 years. Mary is a co-founder of the International School Grounds Alliance, sits on the Play Safety Forum and has worked at Learning through Landscapes (LtL) - the UK’s national school grounds charity – for many years. Mary is currently Head of Education and Communities, looking at how we can continue to learn from and work with other organisations, including schools, and runs the organisation’s training programme for landscape architects.

 

Annie Surtees, Salford City Council

Annie’s horticultural career started in commercial greenhouses and market gardens, before she jumped at an opportunity to develop a community garden in London. Annie passion for engaging people and wildlife led to work with the RSPB and the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, developing community greening projects. Annie joined Salford City Council in 1994 to develop a contaminated derelict land site into a country park which won a Green Flag Award. Annie’s current role encompasses strategic green space management and development, grounds maintenance, arboriculture and street cleansing.
