2. Managing Landscape Projects

Summary

Project management can be applied to any sector to improve on-time, on-budget and to-scope delivery – and landscape is no different. At a time of increased demand for outdoor living and greater public interest in open spaces within our towns and cities, it’s more important than ever that projects be run efficiently and effectively, so they deliver excellent outcomes and value for money.

This webinar is number two in our three-part series on project management. Building on the previous instalment, on ‘Place and Project Management’, this session explores how effective project management can add value to landscape-based projects.

The webinar will cover:

  • The benefits of project management to Landscapebased projects
  • How Project Management should be used as an overall approach, rather than as an intervention
  • How to measure the success of the project

Damien Wildes

Damien is Construction Project Manager at Carragh Paving and Landscapes and has worked across the landscape sector for the past 11 years. After receiving his primary degree in Landscape Architecture from UCD, he pursued the design and build approach before joining Carragh Paving and Landscapes. With a practical understanding of the elements required to implement a landscaping project, Damien continues to work at refining project management approaches in order to create protocols that assist in generating project success. Acknowledging the depth of knowledge required for such interventions led him to pursue his Masters in Construction Project Management.

Construction plays a key role throughout world economies. However, the poor performance of construction projects resulting in cost overruns, delays and reduced standards of quality have persisted as a major problem internationally. With construction playing such a crucial role, it is vital that projects are ran efficiently and effectively to minimise losses and maximise the benefits of both public and private expenditure while simultaneously meeting stakeholder demands. Project Management can be identified as the tool used to rectify these issues and assist in the development of project success.
